Horn: Description and Operation
HORNThere are 4 separate conditions that can cause the horn to sound. The horn will sound if the driver presses the horn switches, when the remote keyless entry is armed, when a theft event occurs, or when the panic alarm is activated. The horn system uses a horn relay to provide voltage to the horns. The smart junction box (SJB) provides the ground control to engage the horn relay. The horn switches are integrated into the air bag.
PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION
When the horn switch is pressed, circuit 1 (DB) grounds the smart junction box (SJB). The SJB then grounds the horn relay control circuit 1323 (OG/RD). This energizes the horn relay, allowing battery voltage to flow through the horn relay to the horn through circuit 6 (YE/LG), enabling the horn to sound. When the vehicle security system is armed, the SJB provides a momentary ground to the horn relay control circuit 1323 (OG/RD) to indicate the system is armed, and a continuous ground when an intrusion is detected or the panic alarm is activated.
