Oil Pump: Service and Repair

CAUTION: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan can cause engine failure.

1. With the vehicle in neutral, position it on a hoist.
2. Remove the A/C compressor.





3. Remove the drain plug and drain the engine oil.





4. Remove the parts in the order indicated in the illustration and table.
5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Item 7: Oil Filter Housing Removal Note

1. CAUTION: Do not reuse the liquid injection seal. A new service seal must be installed.

Remove and discard the liquid injection seal.





2. Remove and inspect the oil pump drive gear, driven gear and cover. Install new components if necessary.





3. Inspect the face of the oil pump for flatness.
4. Install a new service seal on the oil pump cover.
5. Lubricate parts with clean engine oil before assembly.

Item 6: Oil Filter Housing Bolt Installation Note

General Specifications:

1. Tighten the oil filter housing bolts as shown.

Item 5: Oil Filter Installation Note

1. NOTE: Tighten oil filter one half turn after gasket makes contact with oil filter housing.

After installing oil filter, fill the engine with clean engine oil.
