Power Locks: Description and Operation
HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMSThe hood latch system contains a latch fastened to the body and a hood latch striker attached to the hood. The latch is controlled by the hood latch release handle and cable.
The front door entry system contains a latch that is fastened to the inside of the door frame and is controlled by the exterior and interior door handles. The latch contains the door ajar switch and door lock actuator. The front doors are locked/unlocked by the remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter, the RKE keypad, the door lock control switch, or the door lock cylinder.
The rear door entry system contains a latch that is fastened to the inside of the door frame, and is controlled by the exterior and interior door handles. The latch contains the door ajar switch and door lock actuator. The rear doors can be locked/unlocked by the RKE transmitter, the RKE keypad, the door lock control switch, or the door lock cylinder. The rear doors have a child safety lock feature, which is a manual lock on the inside of the rear door frame.
The liftgate system contains a latch located on the bottom of the inside frame of the liftgate, which is controlled by the liftgate latch remote control and contains the liftgate ajar switch. The liftgate latch remote control contains the liftgate release handles, liftgate glass release handle, and the lock actuator. The liftgate window latch is mounted on the upper center portion of the liftgate frame and includes the ajar switch. The latch is actuated by the liftgate window release handle that is part of the liftgate remote control. The liftgate window glass handle operates only when all the doors are unlocked.
The door locks can be actuated by the door lock cylinder. The door lock cylinder switch is an internal part of the door latch. Turning the lock cylinder to the lock position will lock all doors. Turning the lock cylinder to the unlock position will unlock the driver door. If the lock cylinder is turned again to the unlock position within 3 seconds, all the doors will unlock. The driver door lock control switch and the front passenger door lock control switch are illuminated.
