NOTE: The straightedge used must be flat within 0.0051 mm (0.0002 inch) per foot of tool length.
Inspect all areas of the deck face with a straightedge and feeler gauge. The cylinder head must not have depressions deeper than 0.0254 mm (0.001 inch) across a 38.1 mm (1.5 inch) square area, or scratches more than 0.0254 mm (0.001 inch).

Upper intake manifold bolts
Tighten in the sequence shown to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
Lower intake manifold bolts
Tighten in the sequence shown to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
CAUTION: The OEM pulley is pressed on 4.74 mm (0.18 inch) past flush of the end of the camshaft. The service pulley is pressed on flush to the end of the camshaft.
Camshaft LH bearing cap bolts
Tighten in the sequence shown to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
Camshaft RH bearing caps
Tighten in the sequence shown to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
NOTE: New cylinder head bolts must be installed. They are torque-to-yield designed and cannot be reused.
Cylinder head RH bolts
Install the bolts and tighten in six stages in the sequence shown.
Stage 1: Tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
Stage 2: Tighten bolts 90 degrees.
Stage 3: Loosen one full turn.
Stage 4: Tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
Stage 5: Tighten 90 degrees.
Stage 6: Tighten 90 degrees.
Cylinder head LH bolts
Install the bolts and tighten in six stages in the sequence shown.
Stage 1: Tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
Stage 2: Tighten bolts 90 degrees.
Stage 3: Loosen one full turn.
Stage 4: Tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
Stage 5: Tighten 90 degrees.
Stage 6: Tighten 90 degrees.
RH Exhaust manifold nuts
Tighten in the sequence shown to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
LH Exhaust manifold nuts
Tighten in the sequence shown to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
