B1601
FORD:

ISSUE
Some 2005 Escape and Mariner vehicles equipped with a 3.0L engine, may exhibit an intermittent concern of a hesitation or miss accompanied by the anti-theft lamp illuminating and diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B1601. This may be due to the spark plugs causing radio frequency (RF) interference with the powertrain control module (PCM).
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Perform key on engine off (KOEO) self test.
2. If the only DTC present is B1601 (INCORRECT KEY CODE FROM IGNITION KEY TRANSPONDER) replace all six (6) spark plugs.
3. If any other DTC is present, the B1601 should be ignored and the other DTCs should be resolved first by following normal diagnostic procedures.
