PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION

Exterior Rear View Mirror
The exterior rear view mirrors allow the driver or passenger mirror to be electronically or manually adjusted. The positions of the mirrors are controlled by the exterior mirror control switch. Adjusting the exterior mirror control switch to the LH or RH position determines which exterior rear view mirror is controlled. The exterior rear view mirrors are available with a heated option.

Interior Rear View Mirror
The interior rear view mirror may be equipped with an auto-dimming option. This feature automatically reduces the glare caused by headlamps reflecting in the mirror. The auto-dimming feature is disabled when the vehicle is in reverse, allowing a bright view for backing up. The auto-dimming rear view mirror has an on/off switch that disables or enables the auto-dimming feature. An indicator illuminates when the auto-dimming feature is ON. Power is supplied to the auto-dimming rear view mirror when the ignition switch is in the ON or ACC position. There is a forward facing sensor and a rearward facing sensor on the mirror that determine the amount of light present. If there is excessive light sensed by the rearward facing sensor, as compared to the forward facing sensor, the auto-dimming rear view mirror will reduce the reflectivity of the mirror to minimize the glare.

Heated Exterior Rear View Mirror
The heated exterior rear view mirror feature only functions when the rear window defrost is operating. There is no separate control for heated exterior rear view mirrors. The heated exterior rear view mirror power is supplied by the rear window defrost relay through a separate smart junction box (SJB) fuse 10 (15A) that isolates the heated mirrors from the rear window defrost in the event of a concern. The heated exterior rear view mirrors are heated for a period of 15 minutes when the rear window defrost switch is activated.
