Disassembly
1. Remove the No. 6 forward clutch thrust washer.
2. CAUTION: Pry evenly and do not locate screwdriver ends on or near forward clutch check ball to prevent component damage.
Remove the forward clutch assembly.
3. Remove the forward clutch plates.
1. Remove the retaining ring.
2. Remove the pressure plate.
3. Remove the clutch packs.
4. Using the special tool, disassemble the forward clutch cylinder.
5. Clean and reseal the forward clutch.
1. Remove the clutch return spring.
2. Remove the clutch piston and seal assembly.
3. Remove the inner piston seal.
Assembly
1. NOTE: The lip on the seal faces toward the bottom of the cylinder. Make sure the check ball moves freely.
Install a new inner piston seal.
2. NOTE: Lightly coat all the seals with petroleum jelly during assembly.
Using the special tool, install the piston assembly.
3. Install the clutch return spring.
4. CAUTION: Do not fully compress the return spring retainer.
Using the special tool, install the snap ring.
5. Install the forward clutch plates.
1. Install the clutch packs.
2. Install the pressure plate.
3. Install the retaining ring.
6. Using the special tool, measure the clearance between the retaining ring and the clutch cylinder lip.
7. If the clearance is not within specification selective retaining rings are available. Check the clearance after installing the correct selective retaining ring.
