WARNING DEVICES

The warning chime sounds to remind the driver:
- to turn the headlamps off when exiting the vehicle.
- to remove the ignition key when exiting the vehicle.
- to close the doors after starting the vehicle.
- to move the shift lever to the PARK position when exiting the vehicle.
- to fasten the safety belt after starting the vehicle.
- to turn off the turn signal.
- to disengage the parking brake.
- that a fault is present in the airbag warning indicator circuit.
- that the ignition key is in the ON position when the door is open (Escape Hybrid).

The instrument cluster provides the warning chime function. The instrument cluster uses various inputs to determine when to sound the warning chime. The warning chime sounds if:
- the headlamps are left on with the ignition switch in the OFF position and the driver door is ajar.
- the key is in the ignition with the ignition switch in the OFF position and the driver door is ajar.
- the transmission is not in the PARK position and the driver door is ajar.
- a door is ajar while the ignition switch is in the RUN position.
- the safety belts are not fastened and the ignition switch is in the RUN position.
- the turn signal is on for more than 0.8 km (0.5 mile) (vehicles built before January 2006), or 3.2 km (2 miles) (vehicles built after January 2006).
- the parking brake is engaged and the vehicle is moving more than 5 km/h (3 mph).
- the ignition switch is in the RUN position and a secondary airbag warning chime request is received from the restraint control module (RCM).
- the ignition switch is in the ON position with the transmission in the PARK position and the driver door is ajar (Escape Hybrid).

Also, an audible signal is provided to indicate when the turn or hazard signal is on.
