Oil Pump: Service and Repair

Removal
CAUTION: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Remove the A/C compressor.
3. Remove the drain plug and drain the engine oil.
4. Remove the LH motor mount bolt.
5. Install the special tool to the exhaust manifold.
6. Attach the engine lifting equipment and raise the engine.
7. Remove the 3 A/C compressor bracket bolts.
8. Remove the A/C compressor bracket nut.
9. Remove the 2 A/C compressor bracket brace lower bolts and the A/C compressor bracket.
10. Lower the engine and remove the engine lifting equipment.
11. Remove and discard the engine oil filter.
12. If equipped, remove the oil cooler.
13. Remove the 6 oil filter housing bolts and the oil filter housing.
14. CAUTION: Do not reuse the liquid injection seal. A new service seal must be installed.
Remove and discard the liquid injection seal.
15. Remove and inspect the oil pump drive gear, driven gear and cover. Install new components if necessary.
16. Inspect the face of the oil pump for flatness.
Installation
1. Install a new service seal on the oil pump cover.
2. NOTE: Lubricate parts with clean engine oil before assembly.
Install the oil pump drive gear, driven gear and cover.
3. Install the oil filter housing and the 6 bolts and tighten the oil filter housing bolts as shown.
1 Tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
2 Tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
4. If equipped, install the oil cooler.
5. NOTE: Lubricate the new engine oil filter seal with clean engine oil prior to installation.
Install a new engine oil filter.
^ Tighten one half turn after gasket makes contact with oil filter housing.
6. Attach the engine lifting equipment and raise the engine.
7. Install the A/C compressor bracket and the 2 A/C compressor bracket brace lower bolts.
^ Tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the A/C compressor bracket nut.
^ Tighten to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
9. Install the 3 A/C compressor bracket bolts.
^ Tighten to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
10. Lower the engine and remove the lifting equipment.
11. Install the LH motor mount bolt.
^ Tighten to 90 Nm (66 ft. lbs.).
12. Install the oil pan drain plug.
^ Tighten to 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs.).
13. Install the A/C compressor.
14. Fill the engine with clean engine oil.
