Principles of Operation
PRINCIPLES OF OPERATIONInstrument Cluster and Panel Backlighting - Dimmable
The instrument panel dimmer switch allows the brightness level of backlights and the displays to be adjusted. When the headlamp switch is in the OFF position or the autolamp switch is in the ON position with the autolamp feature inactive, displays are illuminated at maximum daytime brightness, while backlights are not illuminated.
When the headlamp switch is in the parking lamps ON, the headlamps ON, or the autolamps ON position and the autolamp feature is active, synchronized dimming of the backlights and displays can occur with the panel dim switch.
With the ignition switch in the RUN position, the audio unit, message center and odometer displays are dimmable. With the ignition switch in the ACC position or with accessory delay feature enabled (ignition switch in the OFF position), only the audio unit display is dimmable.
When the interior lamp mode switch (part of the instrument panel dimmer switch) is in the FOOT or OFF position, the synchronized dimming is set at a 3/4 brightness level while the DOME position provides maximum brightness.
All backlighting is disabled when the battery saver function is activated.
Fault Management
The dimmable backlighting defaults to full intensity if the instrument panel dimmer switch fails.
