Camber and Caster Adjustment

Special Tool(s):





All vehicles
1. Using alignment equipment and the manufacturer's instructions, measure the camber and caster settings.

Vehicles requiring front subframe alignment





2. Using a 19 mm (0.76 inch) dowel, check the front subframe alignment.
^ The dowel should slide directly through the front subframe and body without tilting.








3. Loosen the 4 subframe bolts.
4. Align the front subframe to the correct position. The dowel should slide directly through the front subframe and body without tilting.








5. Tighten the subframe bolts.
^ Tighten to 175 Nm (129 ft. lbs.).
6. Recheck the camber and caster settings and adjust as necessary.
^ On a correctly aligned front subframe, the RH caster will lead the LH caster by 0.5 degrees.

Vehicles requiring camber and caster adjustment
7. Remove the cowl panel grille.
8. If equipped, remove the cabin air filter.





9. If equipped, disconnect the hood disarm switch electrical connector.





10. Disconnect the wiper motor electrical connector.





11. Remove the 2 LH cowl panel bolts.





12. Remove the 7 remaining bolts.
13. Remove the cowl panel.





14. If equipped, disconnect the speed control cable and position it aside.





15. Center punch the 4 alignment plate spot welds.





16. Loosen the shock absorber upper nuts.





17. CAUTION: Do not cut deeper than necessary to remove the alignment plate.

Using the special tool, remove the 4 spot welds.





18. Remove the nuts and the alignment plate.





19. Prepare the shock tower and alignment plate surfaces.
^ Remove any burrs.
^ Clean and paint any exposed metal.





20. Position the alignment plate. Loosely install the nuts.
21. Adjust the camber and caster.





22. Tighten the shock absorber upper nuts to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
23. Check the camber and caster settings and adjust as necessary.





24. CAUTION: Do not drill deeper than 9.6 mm (0.37 inch) into the shock tower.

Drill three 3.2 mm (0.12 inch) holes through the alignment plate and shock tower.
^ Clean and paint any exposed metal.





25. Install 3 pop rivets. Use 3.2 mm (0.12 inch) diameter x 6.4 mm 0.25 inch) grip range steel pop rivets.





26. If equipped, position the speed control cable.
27. Position the cowl panel and install the 9 bolts.
^ Tighten to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).





28. Connect the wiper motor electrical connector.





29. If equipped, connect the hood disarm switch electrical connector.





30. If equipped, install the cabin air filter.
31. Install the cowl panel grille.
