POPPING NOISE FROM INTAKE AREA

This article supersedes TSB 06-19-17 to clarify expected results under TSB Action.

ISSUE
Some 2006-2007 Freestar and Monterey vehicles may exhibit a popping noise coming from the air cleaner assembly. This noise is due to the opening and closing of the idle air control valve (IAC) and the natural resonance frequency of the air cleaner housing.

ACTION
Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release IDS-44.13 and higher or IDS-45.2 and higher. The new calibration is meant to reduce the noise generated by the opening and closing of the IAC. Some noise may still exist and will not affect the powertrain function / driveability or durability. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2006.9 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
