Removal and Installation

CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.

1. Position the front seats rearward.
2. Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
3. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar trim panels and cowl side trim panels.
4. Remove the 3 instrument panel steering column opening cover bolts.
- To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).

5. Remove the instrument panel steering column opening cover.
6. Remove the 2 instrument panel steering column reinforcement bolts.
- To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).

7. Remove the instrument panel steering column reinforcement.
8. Remove the 2 instrument panel console pin-type retainers.
9. Remove the instrument panel console.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.

10. Remove the defroster grille.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.

11. Disconnect the electrical connectors located at the lower center of instrument panel.
12. Disconnect the electrical connectors located at the LH side of instrument panel.
13. Disconnect the smart junction box (SJB) electrical connectors.
14. Remove the intermediate shaft pinch bolt.
- To install, tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).

15. Disconnect the intermediate shaft.
16. Disconnect the transmission shift cable.
17. Disconnect the ground bolts located at the RH cowl.
18. Disconnect the antenna cable.
19. Remove the glove compartment.
20. Disconnect the climate control electrical connector.
21. Disconnect the blower motor electrical connector.
22. Release the tabs and lower the glove compartment.
23. Disconnect the main, heater servo, electronic air temperature and thermal resistor electrical connectors located behind the glove compartment.
24. Remove the RH instrument panel reinforcement bolt.
- To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).

25. Remove the LH instrument panel reinforcement bolt.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

26. Remove the 4 instrument panel center support bolts.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

27. Remove the instrument panel cowl reinforcement bolt.
- To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).

28. Remove the 4 instrument panel cowl top bolts.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

29. Remove the 3 instrument panel cowl side bolts.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

30. Remove the LH instrument panel cowl side bolt.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

31. NOTE: An assistant is required to carry out this step.

Remove the instrument panel.

32. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Repower the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
