Power Distribution Module: Service and Repair
SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB)Removal
CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage to the module may result.
NOTE:
- Prior to the removal of the SJB, it is necessary to upload the module configuration information to the scan tool.
- The tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) functionality is integral to the SJB.
- A new SJB is delivered into a manufacturing mode with pre-set DTCs. These DTCs require that the TPMS sensor training procedure be carried out in order for these DTCs to be cleared. The pre-set DTCs are as follows:
- B2868 - Left Front Tire Pressure Sensor Fault
- B2869 - Right Front Tire Pressure Sensor Fault
- B2870 - Right Rear Tire Pressure Sensor Fault
- B2871 - Left Rear Tire Pressure Sensor Fault
- C2780 - ECU in Manufacturer Sub-State
1. Upload the module configuration information from the SJB into the scan tool.
2. Disconnect the battery.
3. Remove the steering column cover and reinforcement.
4. Disconnect the front SJB electrical connectors.
5. Remove the 2 SJB nuts.
6. Remove the SJB bracket screw.
7. NOTE: Position the SJB forward to allow access to the wiring harness connectors on the rear face of the SJB.
Disconnect the rear SJB electrical connectors and remove the SJB.
Installation
1. NOTE: Make sure the coaxial connector is connected, or the RKE system will experience diminished range.
Connect the rear SJB electrical connectors and install the SJB.
2. Install the SJB bracket screw.
- Tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
3. Install the 2 SJB nuts.
- Tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
4. Connect the front SJB electrical connectors.
5. Install the steering column cover and reinforcement.
6. Connect the battery.
7. Download the SJB configuration information from the scan tool to the SJB.
8. NOTE: When successful, this step clears the first 4 of the 5 manufacturing mode DTCs.
Carry out the TPMS sensor training.
9. NOTE: When successful, this step clears the last manufacturing mode DTC.
Complete the SJB self-test.
10. Clear the continuous DTCs, then retrieve the continuous DTCs. Verify the 5 manufacturing mode DTCs are cleared. Cycle the ignition key OFF then ON to verify TPMS indicator does not flash with key ON.
