Removal and Installation

CAUTION: Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure can result in major service expense. They must be exchanged with the same part number or an equivalent part if an exchange is necessary. Do not use an alternative part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct retention of these parts.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information refer to Maintenance/Service and Repair.

2. NOTE: Use the hex holding feature to prevent the studs from turning while removing or installing the stabilizer bar link nuts.

Remove and discard the front stabilizer bar link lower nuts.
^ To install, tighten to 103 Nm (76 ft. lbs).
3. Remove and discard the front stabilizer bar link upper nuts, then remove the front stabilizer bar links.
^ To install, tighten to 103 Nm (76 ft. lbs).
^ Inspect the stabilizer bar link ball joints and boots for wear or damage. Install new parts as necessary.
4. Using suitable jackstands, support the front subframe.
5. Remove the steering column shaft pinch bolt and disconnect the steering shaft from the steering gear.
^ To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs).





6. Remove and discard the exhaust flex pipe-to-catalytic converter nuts, then disconnect the flex pipe from the catalytic converter.
^ To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs).





7. CAUTION: Do not use power tools to install the subframe bolts. Use hand tools only.

Remove and discard the 2 subframe bolts.
^ To install, tighten to 175 Nm (129 ft. lbs).
8. Lower the rear of the subframe 5-8 cm (2-3 inch) to allow the stabilizer bar to be removed from the vehicle.
9. Remove and discard the tie-rod end nuts.
^ To install, tighten to 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs).
10. Using the special tool, disconnect the outer tie-rod ends from the wheel knuckles.





11. NOTE: Inspect the stabilizer bar bushings for wear. Install new parts as necessary.

Remove the front stabilizer bar.
1 Remove and discard the 4 front stabilizer bar bracket bolts.
^ To install, tighten to 70 Nm (52 ft. lbs).
2 Remove the 2 front stabilizer bar brackets.
3 Remove the front stabilizer bar.





12. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
