MERCURY:

This article supersedes TSB 06-2-2 to update the vehicle model years and service parts.

ISSUE
Some 2006-2007 Explorer 4dr I Mountaineer and 2007 Explorer Sport Trac vehicles may exhibit a pop I clunk noise that may be heard and felt through the steering wheel. This is usually noticed at stationary or low speed turns while accelerating and braking, and may be due to a stick-slip condition affecting the lower steering column shaft. The noise has no effect on steering performance.

ACTION
If the concern is verified, do not lube the lower steering column shaft. Replace the lower steering column shaft per Workshop Manual, Section 211-04.
