WARNING:
- Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
- Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before servicing or disconnecting any of the fuel lines or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved to prevent accidental spraying of fuel, which can cause a fire hazard. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
CAUTION: Fuel injection equipment is manufactured to very precise tolerances and clearances. It is therefore essential that absolute cleanliness is observed when working with these components. Always install blanking plugs to any open orifice or tubes.
NOTE: During the repair or replacement of fuel-related components, all liquid and vapor fuel openings shall be capped, taped or otherwise appropriately protected to prevent the ingress of dirt or other contamination. All caps, tape and other protective materials shall be removed prior to installation.
1. Remove the fuel tank.
2. Remove the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister.
3. Remove the fuel tank shield.
4. Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor and vapor tube assembly-to-fuel pump and the fuel tank vapor valves quick connect couplings.
5. Remove the fuel vapor tube.
6. Disconnect the fuel supply tube-to-fuel pump quick connect coupling.
7. Remove the fuel supply tube.
8. Using the special tool, remove the fuel pump locking ring.
9. NOTE: The fuel pump module must be handled carefully to avoid damage to the float arm and filter.
Remove the fuel pump module and the O-ring seal. Discard the O-ring seal.
Installation
1. NOTE: The fuel pump module must be handled carefully to avoid damage to the float arm and filter.
Install a new O-ring seal and the fuel pump module.
2. NOTE: The fuel pump module locking ring is a cam-type lock. Turn the locking ring until it stops and is locked in place.
Using the special tool, install the fuel pump module locking ring.
3. Install the fuel supply tube.
4. Connect the fuel supply tube-to-fuel pump quick connect coupling.
5. Install the fuel pressure sensor and vapor tube assembly.
6. Connect the fuel pressure sensor-to-fuel pump and the fuel tank vapor valves quick connect couplings.
7. Install the fuel tank shield.
8. Install the EVAP canister.
9. Install the fuel tank.
