Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems: Description and Operation

Anti-Lock Control

Traction Control with Roll Stability Control
The anti-lock brake system (ABS) with traction control and roll stability control consists of the following components:
^ Hydraulic control unit (HCU)
^ ABS module
^ Stability traction control switch
^ Steering wheel rotation sensor
^ Stability control sensor cluster (contains the accelerometer[s], roll rate sensor and yaw rate sensor)
^ Front wheel speed sensors
^ Front wheel speed sensor rings (integral to the wheel bearing and hub assemblies)
^ Rear wheel speed sensors
^ Rear wheel speed sensor rings (integral to the halfshafts)
^ Brake pressure transducer (integral to the ABS module)
^ Brake fluid level sensor
^ Brake pedal force switch (integral to the brake booster)
^ Brake booster solenoid (integral to the brake booster)
^ Yellow ABS warning indicator
^ Traction control/roll stability control indicator ("sliding car" indicator)

The front wheel speed sensor rings are integral to the front bearing and hub assemblies.

The rear wheel speed sensor rings are integral to the rear halfshafts.
