Test F: The Odometer Is Inoperative
PINPOINT TEST F: THE ODOMETER IS INOPERATIVENormal Operation
The instrument cluster receives the odometer rolling count data from the PCM for the Escape and Mariner gasoline vehicles and from the transmission control module (TCM) for the Hybrid vehicles over the high speed controller area network (HS-CAN) communication bus. The instrument cluster monitors the odometer rolling count input from the PCM or TCM and commands the odometer with a display in the integrated display area (base cluster) or the message center display (message center cluster).
If the instrument cluster does not receive the odometer rolling count data from the PCM/TCM or if the data received is deemed invalid for more than 5 seconds, the instrument cluster sets DTC U0100 in continuous memory and defaults the odometer display to all dashes (-----).
NOTE: If DTC U0100 is set in the instrument cluster, other observable symptoms may be an inoperative speedometer, tachometer, temperature gauge (except Hybrid).
DTC B2143 (NVM Memory Failure) - is a continuous and on-demand DTC that sets if the instrument cluster non-volatile memory (NVM) is corrupted. If the instrument cluster determines the NVM to be corrupt, the instrument cluster sets DTC B2143 and displays ERROR in the vacuum fluorescent display (base cluster) area or message center (message center cluster).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- PCM (except Hybrid)
- TCM (Hybrid only)
- Instrument cluster
