RELEASE - BUILT 01/19/2007 - 02/12/2007

FORD:
2008 Escape Hybrid, Escape

MERCURY:
2008 Mariner Hybrid, Mariner

ISSUE
Some 2008 Escape and Mariner vehicles built from 1/19/2007 through 2/12/2007 may exhibit a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B2572 and the brake shift interlock will not release the transmission shift lever from the park position, could have a brake shift interlock solenoid with high resistance.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to repair the vehicle's brake shift interlock system.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Check that fuse number 5 is good (10 Amp).

2. Apply the brake pedal and view the brake lights to be sure the brake lights illuminate.

3. Inspect that the vehicle harness Connector C2096 is fully installed at the transmission shift lever assembly.

4. Check the resistance of the brake shift interlock solenoid at transmission shift lever Connector C2096. Reference Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-05.

a. If the brake shift interlock solenoid resistance is greater than 30 ohms, replace the shifter assembly.

b. If the brake shift interlock solenoid resistance is 30 ohms or less, follow pin point test "A" in WSM, Section 307-05.
