INFORMATION AND ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM

NOTE: The smart junction box (SJB) is also known as the generic electronic module (GEM).

Audio Line-Up
The audio system is enabled when the key is in RUN or ACC.

The speakers are powered directly by the audio control module (ACM). The subwoofer, if equipped, is powered by a separate subwoofer amplifier.

The following audio systems are available:
- Base
- AM/FM single CD with MP3
- Four speakers

- Audiophile
- AM/FM 6-CD changer with MP3
- Four speakers plus subwoofer

- Navigation
- Navigation ACM with voice recognition
- Four speakers plus subwoofer

In addition, the following options are available:
- DVD entertainment system
- Available with Audiophile or navigation audio system
- DVD player (also known as the rear entertainment module [RETM]) mounted to the roof through the headliner

- Satellite audio
- Available as an option with all audio systems
- Provides satellite-broadcast reception

All vehicles have an audio input jack (located in the center console), which can be used to connect a portable MP3 device to the vehicle. When connected, the audio files from the MP3 player can be broadcast through the vehicle speakers.

All vehicles also have steering wheel controls, which can be used to control various functions of the audio system.

Antenna - AM/FM, Satellite Radio, and Global Positioning System (GPS)
This vehicle is equipped with a fixed mast radio antenna mounted on the right front fender. The antenna cable has 2 parts. The antenna upper cable is included as part of the antenna base. The lead-in cable connects the ACM to the upper cable. The 2 cables connect behind the glove compartment.

The satellite antenna (if equipped) consists of a satellite antenna cable and a roof-mounted satellite antenna. For vehicles with satellite audio and navigation, a combination satellite audio/GPS antenna is utilized.

Speakers
All vehicles are equipped with 4 speakers mounted in the doors. Audio signals are sent to the speakers from the ACM, in the form of AC voltage signals.

The subwoofer is mounted behind the rear seat (Explorer Sport Trac), or behind the RH rear quarter trim panel (Explorer, Mountaineer). When the audio system is powered up, an enable signal is sent to the subwoofer amplifier. The subwoofer amplifier then sends audio signals to the subwoofer speaker, in the form of AC voltage signals.

Navigation System
The navigation system is integral to the ACM. The navigation ACM controls the operation of the navigation system and the audio system. The system uses a GPS antenna, a vehicle speed input, and other sensor information to accurately establish the vehicle position. The navigation ACM provides the visual and audible instructions of the maneuvers required to arrive at the pre-entered destination. An audible switch feedback is provided to confirm if an ACM button or a screen button is pressed. The audible switch feedback can be set to ALL, TOUCH SCREEN, or NONE depending on user preference.

Satellite Audio
The satellite audio system is comprised of the following:
- Satellite digital audio receiver system (SDARS) module, located behind the glove compartment
- Satellite radio antenna cable
- Satellite radio antenna
