Test G: The Video System Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly

PINPOINT TEST G: THE VIDEO SYSTEM IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY

Normal Operation
Voltage is supplied to the rear entertainment module (RETM) at all times. A wake-up signal is sent to the RETM by the audio control module (ACM) through the medium speed controller area network (MS-CAN). When a video disc is inserted into the RETM and the PLAY button is pressed, an image is displayed on the screen. Audio information from the RETM is communicated to the ACM through circuits VME17 (GN), RME17 (GY), VME18 (VT), and RME18 (YE).

In single-play mode, the audio unit plays the DVD audio on all speakers. In dual-play mode, the DVD player controls the rear speakers and the headphones.

- U0196 (Lost Communication With Entertainment Control Module - Rear [AUX]) - sets in the ACM when it does not receive status messages from the RETM. If the RETM has lost power or ground, it will not communicate with the scan tool. If this is the case, refer to Information Bus (Module Communications Network) to diagnose no communication with the RETM.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- RETM
- ACM
