2008 Mountaineer
ISSUE
Some 2008 Mountaineer vehicles equipped with 4.6L, all wheel drive (AWD) and built prior to 8/9/2007 may exhibit a condition with the Instrument Cluster (IC) message center where the AWD Locked Function will not display when selected on the setup menu. This will not allow the customer to lock the AWD system.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

NOTE
DO NOT REPLACE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FOR THIS CONCERN.
The cluster configuration has been updated in the As-built data for this issue.
Using IDS release 50.7 and higher or 51.1 and higher. The software change is not included in the VCM 2007.9 DVD. Files may also be obtained at the website. Refer to Workshop Manual, Section 418-01.
If a vehicle comes in for this concern, perform the programmable module installation (PMI) using the Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) and download the new As-built data into the IC module.
NOTE
THE MODULE DOES NOT REQUIRE REPLACEMENT WHEN THE IDS TOOL PROMPTS FOR INSTALLATION OF A NEW MODULE. JUST CLICK PAST THIS SCREEN AND ENTER THE AS-BUILT DATA WHEN PROMPTED.
