Removal
WARNING:
- Never probe the electrical connectors on safety belt buckle/retractor pretensioners or adaptive load limiting retractors. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of the safety belt pretensioners or adaptive load limiting retractors, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.
- Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, safety canopy or side air curtain modules. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.
- Use care when handling the front passenger seat and track assembly. Dropping the assembly, placing excessive weight on or sitting on a front passenger seat that is not secured in the vehicle may result in damaged seat components. Failure to follow these instructions may result in incorrect operation of the occupant classification sensor (OCS) system and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
NOTE:
- The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the restraints control module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.
- The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
1. Pry out at the bottom, then slide up and remove the cushion side shield cover.
2. Remove the bolt and separate the safety belt anchor from the seat.
3. Remove the seat track-to-floor bolt front cover.
- Pull up at the front to release the clips, then slide up and forward to remove.
- The seat track must be back far enough for the rear of the cover to slide up and the locator tab to separate from the seat track.
4. NOTE: Driver seat track inboard rear mounting ear shown, passenger seat similar.
Position the seat so that the seat track bracket does not engage the safety belt buckle and pretensioner bracket attached to the cushion frame.
- If equipped with power seats, move the seat to its highest vertical position.
5. Depower the SRS.
6. Remove the 2 seat track-to-floor front bolts.
7. Remove the 2 seat track-to-floor bolt rear covers.
8. Remove the 2 seat track-to-floor rear bolts.
9. WARNING: The occupant classification sensor (OCS) rails have a built-in strain gauge which may operate incorrectly if an OCS rail is dropped by itself, dropped after it is installed to the front passenger seat or dropped after it is installed to a front passenger seat track assembly. Use care when handling an OCS rail before or after it is installed to the front passenger seat or seat track assembly. Failure to follow these instructions may result in incorrect operation of the OCS system and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
Tip the seat, release the wire harness pin-type retainers, disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the seat.
Installation
WARNING:
- Make sure the front passenger seat is correctly installed and fastened to the vehicle. Do not force the alignment to the floorpan mounting holes. If the seat does not align to the floorpan mounting holes, repair the seat or floorpan as needed. Failure to follow these instructions may result in incorrect operation of the occupant classification sensor (OCS) system and increase the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
- After any crash, inspect the front passenger seat-to-floorpan mounting area for deformation and restore to its original condition, if deformed. Correct alignment of the occupant classification sensor (OCS) rails to the seat and floorpan is critical for correct OCS system operation. Incorrect operation of the OCS system increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
All seats
1. Position the seat in the vehicle.
2. Tip the seat, connect the electrical connectors and install the wire harness pin-type retainers.
- Always install a new pin-type retainer whenever the vehicle harness has been separated from the seat attachment point.
3. CAUTION: Once the front inboard attachment bolt is hand tightened to its angled bracket, make sure the 3 remaining holes in the track risers align to the floor mounting nuts without forcing them.
Start by hand all of the seat track-to-floor bolts, but do not tighten at this time.
Driver seat
4. Apply threadlock and start the 4 seat track-to-floor bolts by hand.
- Tighten in the sequence shown to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
Passenger seat
5. Apply threadlock and start the 4 seat track-to-floor bolts by hand.
- Tighten in the sequence shown to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
All seats
6. Install the seat track-to-floor bolt front cover and 2 rear covers.
7. Repower the SRS. If a passenger seat has been serviced, do not prove out the SRS at this time.
8. If necessary, position the seat then align the safety belt retractor belt anchor to the seat and install the bolt.
- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
9. Install the cushion side shield cover.
10. Check the active restraint system of the seat.
- Make sure the safety belts and buckles are accessible to the occupants after installation.
Passenger seat
11. Carry out the Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) System Zero Seat Weight Test and prove out the SRS.
