LIFTGATE DIFFICULT TO OPEN OR CLOSE - BUILT

ISSUE
Some 2008-2011 Escape and Mariner vehicles built on or before 3/2/2011 may exhibit a liftgate that is difficult to open or close.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
This may be caused by the position of the liftgate striker in relation to the latch.
1. Remove liftgate striker.
2. Place flat washer under striker.
3. Reinstall striker. Refer to Workshop Manual, Section 501-03 for Torque Specification and adjust as needed.
