Pinpoint Test I: The Front Display Interface Module (FDIM) Is Completely Inoperative

Normal Operation

The Front Display Interface Module (FDIM) receives voltage from the Smart Junction Box (SJB). The ignition switch position message is broadcast to the FDIM by the SJB via the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN).

Information from the audio system (vehicles without navigation), the climate control system, the SYNC system (if equipped), and the compass heading (if equipped) are shown on the FDIM display screen. If only one of these displays has a concern, GO to Pinpoint Test K. Pinpoint Test K: An Individual Front Display Interface Module (FDIM) Display Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly - Vehicl

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Communication network concern
- FDIM




PINPOINT TEST I: THE FDIM IS COMPLETELY INOPERATIVE

I1 CHECK FOR SCAN TOOL COMMUNICATION WITH THE FDIM



- Carry out the network test using the scan tool.
- Does the FDIM respond to the scan tool?

Yes
GO to I2.

No
REFER to Information Bus.

I2 CHECK FOR CORRECT FDIM OPERATION



- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect the FDIM connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the FDIM connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new FDIM. REFER to Front Display Interface Module (FDIM) Front Display Interface Module (FDIM). TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
