ISSUE
Some 2009-2011 Mariner and 2009-2012 Escape vehicles equipped with a 2.5L DOHC engine and automatic transmission may exhibit a drone/moan or rattle noise. The noise typically occurs while driving up a slight incline, under light throttle at 45-61 Km/h (28-38 MPH) at 1300-1400 RPM, in 5th gear. Torsional engine pulses may cause front end accessory drive (FEAD) resonation. The noise may be present with the A/C on or off but is typically aggravated when the A/C compressor cycles on.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
