ISSUE
Some 2011 - 2012 Escape, Fusion and 2011 Mariner, Milan vehicles built on or after 11/24/2010 with 2.5L DOHC engine and 6F35 transmission may exhibit a harsh 1-2 shift or harsh 5-6 shift or an intermittent delayed/harsh first engagement primarily in reverse but occasionally in drive.
ACTION
Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) release 76.01 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2011.11 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
NOTE
PLEASE ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION SHIFT STRATEGY WHICH ALLOWS THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER TO LEARN THE TRANSMISSION'S UNIQUE PARAMETERS AND IMPROVE SHIFT QUALITY. WHEN THE ADAPTIVE STRATEGY IS RESET, THE COMPUTER WILL BEGIN A RE-LEARNING PROCESS. THIS RE-LEARNING PROCESS MAY RESULT IN FIRMER THAN NORMAL UPSHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS FOR SEVERAL DAYS.
