Pinpoint Test AB: The Stability/Traction Control Indicator (Sliding Car Icon) Is Never/Always On
Normal Operation
The stability/traction control indicator (sliding car icon) flashes when the vehicle stability/traction control is in active mode or is being controlled by the ABS module. The Instrument Cluster (IC) receives the stability/traction control data from the ABS module over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus. The IC monitors the stability/traction control message and when the ABS module detects a stability/traction control concern, the IC illuminates the stability/traction control indicator (sliding car icon). If the stability/traction control message is missing for more than 5 seconds, the IC sets DTC U0121 (non-hybrid) or U0129 (hybrid) in continuous memory and defaults the stability/traction control indicator (sliding car icon) on.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Stability/traction control system concern
- A MyKey(TM) programmed key is in use
- ABS module
- IC
PINPOINT TEST AB: THE STABILITY/TRACTION CONTROL INDICATOR (SLIDING CAR ICON) IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON
-------------------------------------------------
AB1 CHECK FOR THE KEY TYPE
- Check if the key is a MyKey(TM) programmed key or administrator key. Refer to Anti-Theft - Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) - Hybrid Programming and Relearning.
- Is the key an administrator key?
Yes
GO to AB2.
No
If the MyKey(TM) AdvanceTrac(R) on feature is configured always on, the system is normal. The traction control system cannot be disabled when the AdvanceTrac(R) on feature is configured always on.
If the MyKey(TM) AdvanceTrac(R) on feature is not configured always on, GO to AB2.
-------------------------------------------------
AB2 CARRY OUT THE IC INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IC DataLogger.
- Select the IC stability/traction control indicator (sliding car icon) (ACTIVELMP) active command. Command the stability/traction control indicator (sliding car icon) on and off. Observe the stability/traction control indicator.
- Does the stability/traction control indicator (sliding car icon) illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?
Yes
GO to AB3.
No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.
-------------------------------------------------
AB3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE ABS MODULE SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded ABS module DTCs from the self-test.
- Are any ABS module DTCs recorded?
Yes
REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules Testing and Inspection.
No
GO to AB4.
-------------------------------------------------
AB4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded IC DTCs from the self-test.
- Is DTC U0121 (non-hybrid) or DTC U1029 (hybrid) recorded?
Yes
GO to AB5.
No
INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to Vehicle Dynamic Systems Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.
-------------------------------------------------
AB5 CARRY OUT THE IC SELF-TEST
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IC Self-Test.
- Clear the DTCs. Repeat the IC self-test.
- Is DTC U0121 or DTC U0129 present?
Yes
For DTC U0121, GO to Pinpoint Test AZ. Pinpoint Tests AZ: DTC U0121
For DTC U0129, GO to Pinpoint Test BA. Pinpoint Tests BA: DTC U0129
No
VERIFY the stability/traction control indicator is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have resulted from an intermittent network concern.
