Attachment III - Technical Information
OVERVIEWThe affected vehicles were ordered and shipped to dealers in the State of Washington without the California Emissions Package, which is required by law. Dealers are to replace and program the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), and replace Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) label.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
NOTE:
The following PCM replacement procedure is different than the procedure described in the Workshop Manual. Do not perf3. Disconnect the IDS and turn off the vehicle power.
1. Open the hood.
2. Using IDS, start a new session to obtain the "Programmable Parameters".
a. From the toolbox menu, select "Module Programming".
b. From the Module Programming menu, select "Programmable Parameters".
1. Select "Speed Items" and record the value for "Speed Control - (PCM)" and "Speed Control System Type - (PCM)".
2. Select "Tire Size / Axle Ratio" and record the values for "Tire Size - (PCM)" and "Axle Ratio - (PCM)".
3. Select "Transmission" and record the values for "Solenoid Body Strategy" and "Solenoid Body ID". (If the transmission information can not be obtained with the IDS, use the Solenoid Body Tag located on top of the transaxle case. See Figure 1.)
3. Disconnect the IDS and turn off the vehicle power.
4. Detach the wiring harness retainer from the cowl stud bolt.
5. Disconnect the 3 PCM electrical connectors.
6. Remove the 2 bolts and the PCM
7. Remove and inspect the PCM cowl seal; install a new cowl seal if damaged.
8. Install the new PCM and tighten the retaining bolts to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
9. Connect the 3 PCM electrical connectors.
10. Attach the wiring harness retainer to the cowl stud bolt.
11. Using IDS, start a new session to program the new PCM.
a. From the toolbox menu, select "Module Programming".
b. From the Module Programming menu, select "Programmable Module Installation (PMI)".
c. Select "PCM" and follow the instructions on the IDS.
1. When prompted, enter the previously recorded values for "Solenoid Body Strategy" and "Solenoid Body ID".
2. Enter the previously recorded values for "Axle Ratio - (PCM)", "Tire Size - (PCM)", "Speed Control - (PCM)", Driveline - (PCM)" and "Speed Control System Type - (PCM)".
3. Continue to follow the instructions on the IDS.
12. NOTE: The new PCM DOES NOT require new keys or programming of keys, only a Parameter Reset of the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS).
Reprogram the PATS and carry out the Parameter Reset procedure. Refer to Workshop Manual Section 419-01A.
13. Clear all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
14. Using the scan tool, perform the Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction procedure, following the IDS instructions
15. Remove the original Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) label from the hood. Clean the sur[ace, then install the new VECI label in its place.
16. Close the hood.
