FORD:

MERCURY:

This article supersedes TSB 11-7-28 to update the Title and the IDS release level.

ISSUE
Some 2011 Escape, Mariner, Fusion and Milan vehicles built on or before 3/30/2011 and equipped with a 6F35 transmission may have a 2-3 shift flare that occurs when vehicle is cold or an intermittent delayed/harsh first engagement, primarily reverse, but occasionally drive. The intermittent delayed/harsh first engagement concern is after starting the engine with a remote start system.

ACTION
Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using integrated diagnostic system (IDS) release 74.04 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2011.7 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained.

NOTE
PLEASE ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION SHIFT STRATEGY WHICH ALLOWS THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER TO LEARN THE TRANSMISSION'S UNIQUE PARAMETERS AND IMPROVE SHIFT QUALITY. WHEN THE ADAPTIVE STRATEGY IS RESET, THE COMPUTER WILL BEGIN A RE-LEARNING PROCESS. THIS RE-LEARNING PROCESS MAY RESULT IN FIRMER THAN NORMAL UPSHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS FOR SEVERAL DAYS.

WARRANTY STATUS: Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage
