This article is being re-issued to update all affected car lines and stress the importance of the correct service procedure to prevent damage to the clutch quadrant and pawl assembly.

In the event the clutch cable is disconnected for removal of:

^ Transmission
^ Clutch and clutch pedal components
^ Clutch cable

Car Shop Manual, Part 16-03 "Mechanical Clutch Linkage" describes the proper method for installing the clutch cable.

The clutch pedal must be lifted to disengage the adjusting mechanism during cable installation. If the preceding service is not performed, damage to the selfadjuster mechanism may occur.

NOTE: Under no circumstances should a prying instrument such as a screwdriver or pry bar be used to install the clutch cable into the quadrant.
