The following changes have been made to test 6 of the "quick test" found on page 5-19 in Book II of the 1982 Car/Truck Shop Manual Engine/Emissions Diagnosis Manual.
In Steps 6.1 and 6.2, RPM is revised to 2500 RPM.
In 6.2, "Timing retards" if a short-to-ground is detected the short should be serviced and the MCU retested. If the short-to-ground is not present, replace the MCU and test. In 6.2, "Timing does not retard" if an open is detected, the open should be serviced and the MCU retested. If the open is not present replace the MCU and retest. A copy of the revised page is attached so it can be placed in your manual.
