SEAT - BUCKET - DRIVER'S SEAT SLIGHTLY FACES PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE (EXCEPT RECARO)

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1982-83 CAPRI

Some 1982-83 Mustang/Capri vehicles may exhibit driver's seat slightly facing the passenger side of vehicle and tilted inboard. This condition may be caused by the front seat cushion pad not being secured to the cushion frame allowing the pad and trim cover to shift out of design position.

1. Remove the seat and track assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Part 41-01 of the appropriate car shop manual.
2. Remove the seat tracks from the seat cushion frame.
3. Remove the seat back latch/adjuster cover then, remove the screws retaining the seat back to the seat cushion. (Refer to Section 41-30 of the appropriate car shop manual).

4. Remove the hog rings and/or disengage the plastic retainers used to secure the trim cover to the cushion frame (refer to Figures 5 and 6). Then, remove the cover.

5. Remove the cushion pad from the frame assembly.
6. Position and secure cushion pad to the frame assembly as shown in Figure 7.
7. Install the cushion trim cover.
8. Position the seat back to the seat cushion and install the three attaching screws. Torque the inboard pivot shoulder screw to 26-43 N-m (20-31 ft.lbs.). Torque the two (2) seat back latch/adjuster to cushion attaching screws to 20-43 N-m (15-32 ft.lbs.).
9. Install the seat back latch/adjuster cover.
10. Install the seat tracks to the seat cushion frame. Torque the attaching screws to 12-24 N-m (9-18 ft.lbs.).
11. If the seat is equipped with an inertia seat back latch, check the latch for proper operation (sensitivity test) before installing the seat and track assembly in the vehicle as outlined in Section 41-30 of the appropriate car shop manual.
12. Install the seat and track assembly in the vehicle.
Torque the seat track to floor pan screws and/or nut and washer assemblies to 12-24 N-m (9-18 ft.lbs.).
13. Check the seat tracks for proper operation.
