In CARES/OASIS
YES
NOTE:
Please read and circulate these instructions to your Service and Parts Personnel. Technical questions should be directed to your Technical Assistance Hotline.
Vehicles Affected
^ 1981 through 1983 Mustang and Capri cars produced at the Dearborn Assembly Plant.
^ 1983 and 1984 Escort and Lynx cars produced at the St. Thomas Assembly Plant.
Reason For The Recall
Ford Motor Company of Canada, Limited (Ford) is recalling the above identified cars. This is in response to a Transport Canada concern that a condition may exist that is likely to affect the safe operation of these cars.
If large rearward loads are repeatedly placed on the driver's seat back, the forward lower seat cushion attachment screw could break unexpectedly and permit the seat back to fall backwards. Transport Canada's concern is that this could affect the driver's ability to control the car and may result in a vehicle crash.
Dealers are asked to replace the two driver's side seat cushion attachment screws on subject cars.
Owner Refunds
Owners who have paid for replacement of the forward lower seat recliner to seat cushion attachment screw as a result of this condition prior to the announcement of this recall will be refunded the cost of parts and labor. Refund requests must be submitted to a dealer by December 31, 1988. Dealers must submit refund requests by January 31, 1989.
Your cooperation in the timely and effective administration of this recall is appreciated.
