Ignition System: Service and Repair

DISTRIBUTOR CAP

Wash cap with soapy water. Dry cap with compressed air. Inspect cap for carbon tracks, dirt or corrosion, cracks, damaged carbon button. Replace cap if necessary.


ROTOR

Use a clean, damp cloth to wipe rotor. Dry rotor with compressed air. Inspect rotor for cracks and burns, broken or damaged spring or points, carbon tracks. Replace rotor if necessary.


IGNITION COIL

Dampen a clean cloth with soapy water to wipe coil tower. Dry with compressed air. Inspect for carbon tracks, dirt, and cracks. Replace coil if necessary.


SPARK PLUG WIRES

Wipe wires with a clean damp cloth and inspect them for cracks, cuts, torn boots, etc, without removing high tension wires. Replace damaged wires.
