Radio/Stereo: Service and Repair

When installing radio, be sure to adjust antenna trimmer for peak performance.

1982 COUGAR XR-7, 1982-88 THUNDERBIRD, 1983-88 COUGAR & 1983-86 LTD & MARQUIS

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove radio knobs, then remove instrument panel center trim panel.
3. Remove radio mounting plate attaching screws.
4. Pull radio to disengage from lower rear support bracket, then disconnect power antenna, speaker leads and floor switch lead, if equipped and remove radio.
5. Reverse procedure to install.

1982 COUGAR & GRANADA & 1982-83 FAIRMONT, ZEPHYR

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect power lead, speaker leads and antenna lead from radio.
3. Remove control knobs, discs, control knob shaft nuts and washers.
4. Remove ashtray and bracket.
5. Remove radio rear support attaching nut.
6. Remove instrument panel lower reinforcement.
7. Remove heater or A/C floor ducts.
8. Remove radio from bezel and rear support, then lower radio from instrument panel.
9. Reverse procedure to install.
