To improve the brake "feel" on certain models of T-Bird/Cougar and Mustang/Capri, new shoe and lining assemblies were installed in production. Starting in late August, the affected vehicles are being produced with organic inner brake shoe linings and semi-metallic outer brake shoe linings.
The mixed brake shoe and lining assemblies can be identified by a red color code on the organic lining and a white color code on the semi-metallic lining. This color code is located on the inner radius of the lining materials.
The new hybrid linings are not currently available but will be available for service in late January, 1984.
Whenever service replacement linings are installed on 1983 and 1984 Mustang/Capri or T-Bird/Cougar, the chart below should be used to determine the type of shoe and lining assemblies to install.
