4-140 OVERHEAD CAM ENGINE
1. Position camshaft so that base circle of cam lobe is facing the cam follower, Fig. 10, of the valve to be checked.
2. Using tool T74P-6565-A or equivalent, slowly apply pressure onto the cam follower until the lash adjuster is completely collapsed. Hold follower in this position and insert the proper size feeler gauge between base circle of the cam and the cam follower, Fig. 11.

1. Rotate camshaft to position A, Fig. 12, and check intake and exhaust valve clearances indicated in chart with tappet fully collapsed. Collapsed tappet clearance should be .072 to .174 inch.
2. Rotate camshaft to position B, Fig. 12, and check intake and exhaust valve clearances indicated in chart with tappet fully collapsed.
