During the 1983 model year, certain C5 pump and converter housing to case bolts and AOD pump to case bolts were precoated for production usage with Dri-Loc anaerobic sealant.
FIGURE 10:
On the C5 transmission, the three (3) bottom pump and converter housing to case bolts (small flange case) were precoated with the sealant to prevent oil leaks. (Refer to Figure 10 for the location of the bolts.) On the AOD transmission, all the pump to case bolts were precoated with the Dri-Loc sealant. For this reason, more break torque might be required to remove the bolts.
When service requires removing and reinstalling the bolts, wire brush the bolts and the case bolt holes. Remove as much loose sealant as possible. Recoat the bolt with either Threadlock and Sealer (Part No. E0AZ- 19554-A), Pipe Sealant with Teflon (Part No. D8AZ- 19554-A), or Teflon tape. Torque the bolts to specification. (The torque specification has not changed, C5- 28-38 lbs.ft.; AOD-16-20 lbs.ft.).
