Rough idle and engine idle stalls may be due to a vacuum leak in the turbo compressor discharge tube. A pipe plug in the turbo compressor discharge tube was installed for the purpose of shipping the engine between the engine plant and Body and Assembly. The torque specification was not high enough to prevent a vacuum leak around the pipe plug during a normal running condition in some cases. See Figure 34.
The condition can be serviced as follows:

1. Remove the plug. (Obtain a new one if plug is missing, 3-8-18).

2. Apply Loctite to the threads.

3. Reinstall plug and torque to 16-24 N-m (12-18 ft.lbs.).
