LIGHT TRUCK 1982-83 F SERIES
This article is being re-published to include 1982 and 1983 F Series trucks and to provide the new service part number for the intake manifold.
Rough idle concerns may be caused by the crossover heat tubes (located in intake manifold) "backing out of position" and allowing unmetered exhaust gas to leak into the intake manifold. Installation of a replacement manifold will correct this concern.
To check for this condition:
1. Perform an RPM drop test by removing and reconnecting the spark plug wires.
2. RPM loss will normally be less on the right head if the crossover heat tubes are loose or "backed out" of position.
Figure 9:
3. Loose crossover heat tubes can be confirmed by removing the carburetor/carburetor spacer and visually inspecting the tubes as shown in Figure 9.
Figure 10:
4. If the tubes are loose/backed out, install a new manifold, part number E2ZZ-9424-D for 1982 and 1983 vehicles. See Figure 10.
This manifold includes all the necessary parts and instructions to service both the 1982 and 1983 8.2L vehicles.
Part number E2ZZ-9424-D includes:
