FORD 1983 ESCORT, MUSTANG, T-BIRD, LTD

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1983 LYNX, CAPRI, XR7, MARQUIS, CONTINENTAL, MARK

LIGHT TRUCKS 1983 BRONCO, RANGER

CALIBRATIONS: All with "E" core ignition coil

Some vehicles equipped with the E-core ignition coil that is not mounted on the engine produce an audible buzzing or clicking noise. This noise is heard at low idle speeds, and seems to be coming from the dash panel or A/C ducts. The noise might be misdiagnosed as A/C blower, injector or valve noise.

FIGURE 30:

To verify the E-coil as the source of the noise, remove the coil from the mounting bracket or substitute another coil without a mounting bracket (Figure 30).

WARNING: DO NOT HOLD THE COIL IN YOUR HAND WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING OR A SEVERE SHOCK CAN RESULT.

If the noise is eliminated, install a new coil.
