If the shift knob on these vehicles pulls off, it should be serviced by replacing the shift lever extension and the snap-on shift knob with a threaded shift lever extension (E3ZZ-7210-C) and a threaded shift knob (E3ZZ-7213- B). Vehicles built after March 30, 1983, will be equipped with a revised threaded type shift knob to prevent pull off during shifting.
Removal and installation procedures are outlined in the 1983 Car Shop Manual Supplement, Section 16-32-4.
NOTE: During installation of the revised threaded knob, turn until snug, then continue turning in the tightening direction until shift pattern lines up.
