FORD 1983 T-BIRD
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1983 COUGAR
This article outlines a procedure to service a start-up shudder condition at 10-15 mph on Thunderbird and Cougar vehicles built prior to January 20, 1983. The shudder may be felt in the steering column and is caused in part by the engine angle being near the high end of specification (3-1/2~ +/- 1/2~).
To service this condition, use the following procedure:
1. Inspect for a spacer approximately 1/4" thick between the No. 3 crossmember and the rear engine mount.
2. If the spacer is not found, replace the No. 3 crossmember, color coded white, with crossmember (Part No. E0SZ-6A023-A) color coded purple.
