SHEET METAL - HOOD - UNEVEN FLUSHNESS TO FENDER AT THE "A" PILLAR

FORD
1983 T-BIRD

LINCOLN-MERCURY
1983 COUGAR

Figure 5:

Some 1983 T-Bird/Cougar vehicles may exhibit an uneven fender to hood flushness at the "A" pillar. To service this concern it will be necessary to add a shim between the hood and the hood hinge at the rear attachment as shown in Figure 5. The following steps outline this procedure:

1. Loosen both hood to hood hinge attachment bolts. (Before loosening hood attachment bolts, scribe a reference mark on the hood and hood hinge so the previous alignment may be maintained). Do one side of vehicle at a time.
2. Remove the rear hood to hinge attachment bolt. Add one 375674-S36 .060" thick washer or equivalent, between the hood and the hood hinge at the rear attachment as shown in Figure 5 and install retaining bolt loose.
3. Align the scribed mark of the hood and hood hinge and tighten both retaining bolts. Torque to 17-27 N-m (12-20 ft.lbs.).
