Ignition Rotor: Service and Repair

Late 1980-82 Rotor Alignment:






1. Remove distributor cap and rotor, Fig. 10.
2. Position No. 1 piston on compression stroke, then rotate crankshaft until rotor alignment tool, T79P-12200-A or equivalent, can be inserted into alignment slots, Fig. 11.
3. Check vibration damper and timing pointer alignment marks. If timing pointer is within ±4° of TDC, alignment is satisfactory. If alignment is out of specifications, position vibration damper at TDC with cylinder No. 1 at TDC. Loosen sleeve assembly adjustment screws and rotate sleeve until rotor alignment tool can be inserted into alignment slots. Fig. 11. Torque adjustment screws to 25---35 in. lbs. and remove tool.
4. Replace rotor and distributor cap.
