Test 5, Wiring Harness

TFI ignition system wiring harness test connections:

1. Disconnect wiring harness connector from distributor ignition module. Inspect connector for dirt and corrosion. To remove distributor connector, push connector tabs.
2. Disconnect wire at ``S'' terminal of starter relay.
3. Connect the negative lead of a suitable voltmeter to distributor base. Connect positive lead to a straight pin to serve as a probe.
4. Turn ignition ``On,'' probe terminals 1 and 2, Fig. 5, and record voltages.
5. Turn ignition to ``Start'' position and probe terminals 2 and 3, Fig. 5. Record voltage.
6. If voltages obtained are 90% of battery voltage, circuit is satisfactory. If obtained voltages are less than 90% of battery voltage, a defective wiring harness or ignition switch is indicated.
