Poor cold start, engine surge/hesitation, or backfire on tip-in during the initial 2 to 3 minutes of engine operation after an overnight soak in ambients over 55~F, may be caused by an excessively lean fuel/air ratio. This concern can be serviced by installing a 1984 processor. Since a 1984 processor wiring connector is different than the 1983 connector, a revised wiring harness (12A581) adaptor is required in addition to other associated EEC system components.
All parts required for this concern are included in a kit and are priced at $209 net (no stock order discount or PIPP allowance) per kit dealer cost, with a $100 credit when all substituted parts are returned through the Warranty and Parts Return Center. The pricing is consistent with current processor pricing. Service kits will be available for a limited time period beginning immediately and ending September 30, 1985.
