Power Steering Gear - Revised Assembly

83ford19 Article No. 83-7-5

STEERING - GEAR - POWER - TRW - 1984 TEMPO/TOPAZ GEAR ASSEMBLY TO BE USED FOR SERVICE OF PAST MODEL ESCORT/LYNX, EXP/LN7 VEHICLES

FORD 1981-83 ESCORT, 1982-83 EXP

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1981-83 LYNX, 1982-83 LN7

The 1984 Tempo/Topaz power steering gear assembly will be used for 1983 and earlier Escort/Lynx, EXP/LN7 service.

The 1984 Tempo/Topaz power gear is internally the same and services the same as 1983 and earlier Escort/Lynx, EXP/LN7 power gears. Externally, the following differences exist:

^ Thinner wall rack with smaller O.D.
^ New rack bushings, ^ New R.H. gear mounting isolator.
^ New bellows.
^ New inboard bellows clamps (the outboard clamps are the same as Escort/Lynx, EXP/LN7, and C/O).

As service stock of the current Escort/Lynx, EXP/LN7 gear assemblies are used up, the new Tempo/Topaz assembly will be used for service on these vehicles. To assure proper fit of this new gear, the new R.H. gear mount isolator (Part #E3FZ-3C716-A) mentioned above is required. This is the only new part needed when installing the new gear assembly on past models. Using the old isolator would cause an unacceptable, loose fit at the R.H. gear mount.

OTHER APPLICABLE ARTICLES: None
WARRANTY STATUS: "INFORMATION ONLY"

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: The old, larger diameter housing will still be available for rebuilding gears. This allows the rebuilder to use the existing hardware, such as the R.H. isolator, bellows, bellows clamps, etc., rather than requiring new parts.
